The evening sun painted the sky over Rochford in warm golden tones. Jack sat at the computer in Carl’s house, carefully studying the “Daila” protocols. Carl was nearby at the table, holding a cup of coffee and contemplating the next steps. The work was pushing their limits — it was necessary not only to stop “Daila” but to ensure its potential couldn’t be exploited in the future.

“I’m almost done analyzing the protocols,” Jack said without looking away from the screen. “We need to not only freeze it, but create a defense so that no one can activate it without MI-6’s permission.”

Carl nodded slowly, sipping his coffee. “That’s reasonable. But, Jack, you realize even this kind of protection is a temporary solution? Someone will still try to bypass it.”

Jack took a deep breath and closed his laptop. “Yeah, Carl, I understand. That’s why all the data, including the hard drives, need to be delivered to London. They’ll be securely protected there. We’ve done everything we can here in Rochford.”

Carl stood up and walked over to Jack, his face showing seriousness mixed with a bit of exhaustion. “You know, Jack, this mission… it’s shown me that I can still be useful. But this isn’t my thing. I’m a retired officer. Working in a restaurant — that’s what I want to do.”

Jack looked at him with a slight smile. “You’ve done more than anyone could have expected. Without you, we wouldn’t have made it.”

Carl smirked, placing his hand on Jack’s shoulder. “Thanks. But now it’s your turn. Finish this.”

The work on freezing the protocols lasted several hours. Jack and Carl checked each line of code to make sure the system couldn’t be restarted. Carl was recording reports, carefully noting each step of the operation.

When the final lines of code were entered, the system signaled a successful block. The computer screen went dark, leaving only a flashing indicator showing the task was complete.

“Done,” Jack said, leaning back in his chair. “Now it’s up to London.”

Carl placed the folder with the reports on the table. “Tomorrow, I’ll personally deliver this to the department. And you, Jack, deserve a little rest.”

Jack nodded, feeling the weight of exhaustion settling in.

Later that evening, the entire team gathered in the living room of Carl’s house. Leia, Sam, and Ali looked worn out, but their faces showed relief.

“We did it,” Jack began, looking around at the group. “Daila is frozen, the data is being sent to London. We’ve done our part.”

Leia smiled, leaning forward.

“I can finally focus on my new life,” Leia said. “Working in a restaurant isn’t exactly what I dreamed of, but here I’ve found my place.”

Sam put his arm around Ali’s shoulder, his expression confident.

“And now Ali and I are free. Thank you all for that.”

Jack nodded, feeling warmth spread through his chest from these words.

“We did this together,” he said. “Each of you contributed.”

The next morning, Jack and Derek met in the park, the place where they used to walk when they first started their relationship. The air was filled with the scent of flowers, and the sunlight filtered through the leaves of the trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere. But the silence between them was too loud.

Jack felt that this conversation was inevitable but didn’t know how to start it. Derek looked confident, but his eyes betrayed an inner conflict.

“Jack,” Derek began, stopping by one of the benches. “I think you understand why I wanted to talk.”

Jack looked at him, feeling something break inside.

“I have an idea.”

They sat on the bench, and Derek, avoiding Jack’s gaze, continued:

“I’ve been thinking about this a lot, especially after the trip to London. Craig… he’s a part of my life that I can’t ignore. I’ve tried, but… he means too much to me.”

Jack listened quietly, trying to keep his emotions in check.

“You mean you’re going back to him?” Jack finally asked.

Derek nodded, his voice soft, almost apologetic:

“Yes. But I want you to know that these months with you were special. You helped me see that life could be different.”

Jack nodded, feeling the pain start to shift into acceptance.

“I understand. And, you know, I’m glad we met. You were an important part of my life.”

They sat in silence as the sun began to set behind the horizon. Before leaving, Derek hugged Jack, and this farewell was both sad and liberating.

Returning to the restaurant became a distraction for Jack from his personal drama. Carl, Leia, and Ali were working on new projects, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was filled with new goals and ideas.

“Leia, you’re amazing at running this place,” Carl said, watching her coordinate the team’s work.

“Thank you, Carl. This place has become home for me,” she replied with a smile.

Ali helped Leia organize events, and between them, something more than just friendship began to grow. Their sincere smiles and shared enthusiasm made the restaurant not only a successful business but also a place where people found each other.

Later that evening, Sam approached Jack, who was sitting at the bar, reflecting on the future ahead.

“Jack, can we talk?” Sam asked, his voice a little nervous but confident.

Jack nodded, gesturing for Sam to sit down.

“I’m listening.”

Sam looked at him, his face serious.

“I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time, but I didn’t know how. I… I feel something for you. It’s more than just friendship.”

Jack froze, his eyes meeting Sam’s.

“Are you serious?”

“Yes. I understand that you’ve just gone through a breakup, and maybe this isn’t the best time, but I can’t hide it anymore.”

Jack stared at Sam for a long time, his face gradually relaxing.

“You know, Sam, you surprised me. But, I think we should give it a try.”

Sam smiled, his face lighting up with joy.

“So, we’re going together?”

“Yes,” Jack replied. “We both need something new.”

They shook hands, and then Sam unexpectedly pulled Jack into an embrace.

The morning brought clarity. Jack, Carl, and the team gathered in a quiet corner of the restaurant, where a temporary station was set up to analyze the “Daila” data. Leia, Ali, and Sam, despite their exhaustion, listened attentively as Carl explained the plan.

“We can’t destroy it completely,” Carl began, looking at the small hard drive in his hands. “But freezing the protocols and sending it to London is the safest option.”

Jack nodded.

“It’s the right decision. Rochford is not the place for such information to stay.”

Leia, standing next to Carl, glanced at Ali, who was still a little uneasy.

“Ali, are you okay?”

“Yes,” he replied, smiling. “Just can’t believe it’s all coming to an end.”

Carl carefully inserted the disk into the portable server, and Jack began the freezing process. Lines of code flickered on the screen, confirming the success of the operation.

“Done,” Jack said, leaning back in his chair. “Now we just need to send it to London.”

Carl nodded.

“I’ll take care of that.”

The last evening Jack and Sam spent in Rochford was filled with a warm atmosphere. Carl organized a small dinner at the restaurant, inviting only the closest people.

“I want to say a few words,” Carl began, raising his glass of wine. “Working with you has been incredible. Jack, you showed what it means to be a true leader.”

“Sam, your perseverance has inspired all of us. And Leia, you’ve proven that you can handle any task.”

Everyone applauded, raising their glasses. Jack, feeling warmth fill the room, stood up.

“Thank you, Carl. This restaurant has become more than just a place of work for us. It has become home. I know that everything will be in good hands here.”

Leia smiled, hugging Carl.

“We’ll manage.”

Ali, standing nearby, added:

“This is not the end, but only the beginning.”

Early in the morning, before leaving, Jack and Derek met in the park. It was their final farewell.

“I don’t want to leave with any hard feelings,” Derek said, his voice quiet.

“And you won’t,” Jack replied, holding back his emotions. “I’m grateful for everything that was between us.”

Derek nodded, his gaze filled with gratitude.

“I hope you find happiness, Jack.”

“I hope the same for you, Derek.”

They embraced one last time, and Jack watched as Derek disappeared around the bend in the path.

Sam was waiting for Jack by the car. Their luggage was neatly packed, and the anticipation was clear in Sam’s eyes.

“Are you ready?” Sam asked, smiling.

Jack nodded.

“Yes. Let’s go.”

They got in the car, and Sam started the engine. Rochford was left behind, and ahead of them lay a new path.

“We’ll make it,” Sam said, looking at the road.

“I know,” Jack replied, feeling the tension of the past months slowly leaving him.

The car disappeared over the horizon, leaving behind the town that had changed their lives.

London welcomed Jack and Sam with a new assignment. Now they were a team, ready for new challenges. And Rochford remained the place where friendship, love, and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives had started. After a short vacation, Jack and Sam would head to America to begin their new mission.
